The South hand is surely worth the strongest bid in one’s armoury, be it 2C or 2D while North’s second bid of 2NT shows some scattered values while denying as many as three spades or indeed a five card suit. Knowing this, the 3D bid can only be a cue-bid implicitly agreeing clubs leaving South to look for the perfect hand opposite. (Two aces and the queen of clubs.)  Not surprisingly North fails to oblige but the solid 6C is an easy make. 6S is just about with the odds but fails to make on this occasion.
