doesn’t have enough to bid 2D over 1S and equally East shouldn’t namby about by
inviting game but go straight there instead. But look at poor North! With no
reason to lead anything but a diamond the jack is the stand out choice but just
see what happens. Declarer will let it run round to his hand and then play a
low diamond to the nine, making in all two spades, one heart, five diamonds and
a club – nine tricks and the contract. While trying to do his best North has
found the one lead to give declarer no trouble at all!
