24th November – Board 18. North/South Game.
Dealer East.
Bidding slams is fun – as
long as they make – and it would be hard to miss this one that occurred last
Thursday. Wouldn’t it?

After
a two-level response in a new suit a jump by opener in his own suit is game
forcing and the logic is easy to understand with just the weight of points
being available. Here North could hardly be better and a use of everyone’s
favourite convention will soon establish there is a key-card missing. If south
had shown four key cards then North could have enquired about the queen of
spades by bidding 5H over 5D. For once an easy slam!
