The bidding couldn’t be simpler with North showing a raise to 3NT with a four-card spade suit and West leading the diamond queen. Most people would show their parity in the suit led so that when East plays the three at trick one it is likely the suit breaks 5-3. With no value in ducking declarer should win and with eight tricks on top it looks as though the spade finesse is required for success. However it can’t hurt to cash the top two hearts first in case the queen falls, making the spade finesse redundant. And that is exactly what would happen. Well done to any player who got that right!
