10th September – Board 8. Love All. Dealer
West.
Games that can only be made
on a 4-3 fit are hard to bid and more often than not hard to make and the hand
below was no exception.

North
shows a strong hand by reversing and while 3C by responder is a slight underbid
it is hard to see anything better. In any event North is worth one more go and
tries for the no-trump game by bidding the fourth suit which gives his partner
the opportunity to show three card support for hearts and no interest in the
no-trump game. And so the delicate fit is reached. Actually the play presents
no problem at all with the clubs being so benign and dummy being able to take a
third round diamond force.
