21st May–Board 5. North/South Game. Dealer
North.
It’s always very exciting
to pick up a big hand but one must not wish key cards into partner’s hand in an
effort to make it even more so.

North
will surely open whatever his system’s ‘big’ bid is and South will give the
appropriate denial. From then on it’s an exchange of the majors and North must
be the first to yield. There is no reason at all why South should hold any high
card at all and if he did he would surely have been more enterprising in the
bidding. And I can tell you something that years of experience has taught me –
7-2-2-2 hands are always a disappointment!
