Knife Edge

26th April – Board 18. North/South Game. Dealer East.
Lots of bridge hands are unfair but some are more unfair then others when the wrong decision can cost a mountain of imps.

West:

Dbl/6S??

The bidding might go in many ways but I do think that South should introduce diamonds if only to try and get partner to find the right lead if defending. Of course there is no right lead and 6C is cast iron with 7C unlucky to fail. North’s final decision is on a knife-edge and I have great sympathy for a double of 6C. As it happens 6S is laydown unless West finds the impossible underlead of his hearts for a diamond ruff. At the table 6C doubled made in one room with 6S doubled making by team mates, which converted into 21imps!!
