11thMay – Board 26. Game All.
Dealer East.
Most of the time a direct
approach will get the job done with a minimum of fuss and I think that should
have applied to the featured hand.

South
has an easy overcall and West will bid 1NT but what about North? I’m a firm
believer in bidding what you think partner wants to hear and although there
could be a case made for bidding all sorts of things with that North hand in my
view it is better to give away as little information as possible and bid to the
most obvious game. It may look as though there is a loser in every suit but
that is not the case. If the defence attack clubs declarer can take two
finesses in that suit and pitch a spade from hand while if the defence attacks
spades the club loser will vanish. However if played in spades there is a loser
in every suit.
