Changing Plan

26th November – Board 13. Game All. Dealer North.
North might well have had great expectations for his hand at the beginning of the bidding but that all changed in no time at all.

North:
S A K 8 3 2
H 10 9 7 6 3 2
D K
C 7

West:
S Q J 10 5 4
H A
D A 3 2
C A 8 6 3

East:
S none
H K Q J 8 5 4
D J 8 5
C K J 9 4

South:
S 9 7 6
H none
D Q 10 9 7 6 4
C Q 10 5 2

  West
 North
  East
  South

     No
     1H
    No
     1S
     No
     2H
    No
     3C
     No
     4C
    No
     4H
    End

I would hope to pass at first but back in later with that North hand to show both majors but that idea is dead in the water after the first round of bidding!  When East gives club support after bidding hearts twice he is showing at least 6-4 in the two suits so West mustn’t feel he is short changing his partner by going back to hearts at the game level. North will feel elated I dare say but the cold reality is that 4H can be made but in any event is a good  contract, although I dare say 3NT will come home too.
