23rd July – Board 11. Love All. Dealer South.
Gerber as a convention is

East
should realise that 6S is likely to be a spread if West has three aces and 4C
in this situation – and this situation only! – asks just that question and the
easy slam is reached. (Although it has to be admitted that 6NT by West is
foolproof while 6S might just run into a diamond ruff on a bad day.) Of course
all this would be stopped if South, quite rightly, opens with a weak two in
hearts. West and North would pass and East would bid 4S leaving West an easy
raise to six.
