14th August – Board 7: Game All. Dealer
South.
You might think that there
should be a way to reach any potential slam which needs just about a 50% chance
of success for it to be viable but occasionally there comes a hand which defies
such a precept.

I
can see absolutely nothing wrong with the above auction but 6H is ok and would
be more or less laydown if opener had the same fifteen count but Kxx in hearts
instead of QJx. However I have no idea how it might be bid with any degree of
confidence. (In passing I hope that nobody opened that South hand with a
preempt because that would be too horrible to contemplate. Just because you
hold a seven card suit does not mean that it automatically qualifies for a
three-level opening.)
