Fit Jump

Knowing you have a double fit is a huge asset when you are faced with the decision as to whether to bid one more or not.

The bidding requires some explanation perhaps but South should open with the strongest bid in his system whether it be 2C or 2D and West will intervene with 2S. North passes to show nothing and East makes a fit jump bid of 4C, showing a raise to 4S with a good club suit on the side. South can bid 4D now, forcing of course because of the opening bid, and although North can do little more than raise to 5D West might easily sacrifice now with his excellent club support. 5S will cost 300 and represents a small gain over the 400 which 5D would have scored.
