6th March – Board 3: East/West
Game. Dealer South.
The purists would argue
that South’s suit wasn’t strong enough in intermediates for an opening weak
two, but in the heat of battle I suspect that idea would soon be disregarded.

must have thought that Christmas had come early when his partner doubled a weak
2H bid. For take-out of course but who could resist turning that into a penalty
double! According to deep finesse – the computer who analyses these deals –
declarer will fail by five tricks giving away a penalty of 1100 points.
Ironically that same computer program deems that the only game East/West can
make is – 4H!!
