1st August – Board 11: Love All.
Dealer South.
Vulnerability of course
plays an awfully big part when we make our bidding decisions but sometimes it
is hard to keep a level head.

West
is just about worth an overcall and North should really double to show a hand
that wants to bid but has, by inference, interest in the minors. 3C is too
unilateral and is game forcing to boot while 2S is too feeble. East obviously
will barrage with 4H – bidding to the total number of trumps – and I daresay
South will be happy to have an easy bid of 4S. Which ideally is where matters
should rest. But I have a sneaking suspicion that I would have one more go on
that East hand, a mistake if they double at equal vulnerability where best
defence collects 500, but it could push North into bidding 5S. Eleven tricks
are there as it happens but sometimes accidents do happen….
